When I was a little girl, I sometimes tagged along with my dad when he went to work. He worked in a body shop, and I loved hanging with him and learning about all the cars. But, what I truly yearned for was hanging out in the owner’s house above that shop. I would go upstairs to visit with the owner's wife. She was a hairstylist, and I would get to watch her get ready before work. I had never seen anyone do their hair and makeup like she did before. I remember thinking that I couldn’t wait to be able to do this someday. The best part was the look on her face when she was finished... She looked ready to take on the world. I didn’t truly understand it then, but I knew I wanted to feel the confidence she was exuding.
When I was old enough to make my hair look pretty, I loved how I felt. Then I saw a movie called Clueless! I was obsessed, just like every other girl my age was. I mean, come on, Cher had THE best closet filled with THE most amazing clothes. And she had the most beautiful blonde hair blowing in the wind as she drove around in her jeep. She was always ready to take on the world. This movie solidified my dreams of empowering women’s self-confidence. I knew I wanted to go to school to be a hairstylist. I wanted every girl to look and feel as beautiful as Cher did in that movie.
I completed cosmetology school in 2001. My parents were so proud of me, and I was eager to get my first clients in the chair. Working behind the chair is truly my happy place. I believe there's nothing better than your hair appointment, where I ensure it’s all about you and only you. Each guest has my undivided attention, as your hair appointment should be.
